John W. Waller, III founded Waller Capital Corporation in 1982 and has built it into the nation's leading cable television investment banking firm. John is a founding principal of WallerSutton 2000, and was also a co-founder of the 1997 Fund.

John began to approach the cable television business from an industry-wide financial perspective while working as a Financial Analyst in the Corporate Treasurer's office of Time Inc., the parent company of Home Box Office, Inc. and a major owner of cable television systems. In his position at Time Inc., he developed an excellent understanding of the interrelationship between cable television and other media industries.

It was at his next position, as Divisional Manager for Home Box Office responsible for HBO's relationship with over 300 cable companies in the Middle Atlantic states, that John deepened his understanding of the financial needs of independent cable television companies. "The industry was shifting toward more sophisticated financial transactions, with new players in the industry and big new sources of capital," he explains. John then founded Waller Capital Corporation to bridge the gap between cable television company owners and those capital sources.

A native of Alexandria, Virginia, John graduated from the University of Virginia and then spent two years with the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. He returned to the University of Virginia to earn a Master's degree in Business Administration.
